Let’s talk transition….

Sorry for the long time between posts. Lots going on in my life right now with a new-born and looking at another surgery on my hip which is slowing down the golf rehab :-(

Ok pity party over! Let’s get back to golf! Specifically let’s talk about the transition and how we do it. Recently I saw a golf “guru” say this about Anthony Kim’s transition…

”AK is able to maintain his lane coming down and not lose the line because he moves parallel to the target line with his hips and not diagonally TOWARDS the target line. This is a subtle difference but is critical to his success”

Really?? Moves diagonal instead of towards the target line?? Wow…this is one of my pet peeves with the so-called guru’s out there…how about telling us why this happens instead of telling us what we already know… I mean talk about the master of the obvious.

Well in this video I address the issue (and show you) why the amateur thrusts his hips towards the ball. The appearance of hip thrust is not incorrect it is just that we begin this thrust from the wrong spot because we do not get the left glute back to where it was at address which would give us that squat appearance and the lateral move forwards vice at the ball. Hope you enjoy the video and I will follow it up with the drill that I discussed to help you begin to “feel” the proper move.

God Bless!

First I would like to apologize for not being more consistent with my postings over the last several weeks but about 3 weeks ago my wife and I welcomed our first child into the world and it has just been the most amazing 3 weeks!

But now we are starting to settle back into our schedules and I wanted to get a quick post up and todays topic came as a request from a fellow member over at the www.rotaryswing.com forum and he asked that I elaborate on a comment I made in a thread about keeping the arms in front of the body on the backswing in particular the rotation of the right humerus (righties). And although this is in regards to the RST swing model this move is the same for anyone that is working a model where they are trying to keep the arms more in front of the body.

Now this is going to get a little more into the technical minutia than I would normally like but I am going to keep it as simple as possible. Unfortunately I had to use a different camera so I couldn’t record audio as I was speaking and had to voice over on the post. Anyway I hope this clears things up with regards to this pivotal move and if not please contact me with any comments or questions and I will answer them and do another video if needed.

Thanks and God Bless!

Tiger confirms what I stated a few weeks back…the club is behind him. Listen as he briefly discusses his swing and the current nature of the game.

One question that I see asked a lot on golf forums is “how can I fix my flat backswing” and from the majority of amateur swings that I have seen I believe the following video is exactly what you need. What I have observed in the majority of amateur swings where they have a flat backswing is that they HINGE their wrists in the takeaway instead of cocking their wrists. If you hinge your wrists the takeaway will be flat and your arms and club are going to get deep where as if you add just a bit of wrist cock in the first part of the takeaway the club will go back on a much better plane and your arms will remain in front of your body.

HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY and God Bless!

Better view of why Tiger is stuck

Here is a much better view of what is plaguing Tiger with his golf swing. You will see in this video of him from the 2010 Masters how he is not gradually releasing his right arm from the top and because he is holding the angle in the right arm too long his lower body is getting ahead and the arms cannot get back out in front of his body and he is getting stuck. Semi controllable with the irons but deadly for him with the driver.

Tiger’s breakdown…nothing to worry about

In my opinion Tiger does not have too much to worry about with regards to his golf swing. His family and personal life, sure, but I believe that his golf swing is fine and his game will come around once he gets his personal life in order.

As far as golf Tiger is fighting the same issue the has battled for years…quick hips. His lower body is out racing his arms and when this happens he pumps it right. Tiger is fully aware of this just watch his practice swings as he works on feeling the arms get in front of his body. Only problem with this is if the arms win the race then you pull it left and this is where Tiger is at right now…he is just not synced up. Once he syncs up his arm swing with his body turn he will be fine. As I state in the video he may not get there until he straightens out his personal life as I am sure it is hard to concentrate when you are going through what he is at the moment. But alas he has no one to blame but himself for that.

Anyway enjoy the video and God Bless!

Another Couple of Tiger’s Swings To Look At

Here are two more swings to look at before we begin breaking down Tiger’s swing. The one on the left is a driver from 2009 when everyone loved his swing and the one on the right is from Augusta this year that he hit into the woods.

Breaking Down Tiger’s Swing

Ok, now that the deed is done and the drama is over with Hank Haney and Tiger finally parting ways let’s all take a shot at breaking down Tiger’s swing. What do you think is going on? Do you think that he needs to retool his entire swing?

Take a look at the video posted below. The swing on the right (8 iron) is from a practice round from the 2010 Masters and the swing on the left (7 or 8 iron) is from last years AT&T tournament which he won. Tiger won 6 tournaments last year and in my opinion was swinging the club well, erratic with the driver but everything else was, in my opinion, on point.

Currently Tiger is just flat-out playing like crap and I think in these two videos you will see many differences. Over the next couple of days I will post a few more videos of him and then I will break it down on what I believe some of his issues are. I will set up a folder in the forum just in case anyone would like to offer their opinion or discuss what they believe is going on in Tiger’s swing.

Thanks and God Bless.

Kelvin Miyahira mentioned in one of his golf blog  posts about how we need to start looking at the golf swing from a 3 Dimensional (3D) perspective. This got me thinking of a website I found one time called Motion Golf where they offer golf instruction using 3D technology. It looks very cool as they hook you up and record your swing in 3D which then allows you to “step into” a tour pros swing to match your movements to theirs.

Anyway they have a free download of their viewer with a demo video of European PGA member Mitchell Spearman. I think that this thing is AWESOME! It enables the user to look at the golf swing from any possible angle you can imagine. I found it to be not only insightful but absolutely a ton of fun. Check out the video below….hope you like it as much as I do!

God Bless!

How is this site different from other golf sites?

So what differentiates me from other golf sites? Well first and foremost this is the FREEDOM OF SPEECH GOLF CHANNEL! This is not a my way or the highway golf site. I started this blog because I LOVE golf and everything about it and I wanted to have a site that was unlike any other golf website out there. Many if not all of the other golf sites are so concerned with something with their theory or model being proven wrong or incorrect. Not here, and that is a major reason for starting up my own site. I believe that I have a lot of knowledge and wisdom when it comes to the golf swing and if it happens to not gel with what one says on their site we can’t post it because it may get censored and deleted. A good teacher never stops learning…period. So now there is a site where all comments, as long as respectful and not spam advertisements, are welcome!!!!

My intention is to for The Best Golf Channel is to be just that, the BEST golf channel.  Yes I am going to offer my opinion on a lot of things golf related but they are just that, my opinion. I am always open to learn more or even debate/discuss anything that I have posted or you have seen posted on other sites. That is how we learn. You will NOT get that at any other golf site.

From an entertainment perspective I am really working hard to get some fun projects started such as my own version of lessons with the pros (local club pros and maybe some VA state Amateurs) and interviews with some of the internet golf gurus as well as interviews with some of the members of other golf sites that are extremely knowledgeable about things like club building etc. It is also not my intention to introduce a new swing model or theory…there are enough of those out there. I will however continue to offer my opinion in reviews, swing analysis, etc. because like I said that is what I love!

Bottom line is this site is mean to be fun and NOT confrontational. Golf is fun! Will I have some opinion on here about instruction? Yes, because that is a passion of mine. Do I expect everyone to agree? No, not all. Like I said I want this site to be fun so all good debate is welcome…that is how we learn…there is only ONE requirement and that is that it be RESPECTFUL. If you do not respect others opinions then your comments WILL be deleted. So Let’s make golf fun again! Let’s get some use out of that free forum that I have ! This is the FREEDOM OF SPEECH GOLF CHANNEL!!

Thanks and God Bless!!!
